I wear many hats in my day to day life. I work, I play, I teach, and most of all, I am a wife and mother to a family that I love and adore. One of my part time duties is to be an EMT on the local ambulance. I live in a town that has many older adults. I have seen many things in the four years that I have been "running" with the local fire department.
One of the medical emergencies that we see often, is a heart attack. I have encouraged my family and friends to all learn CPR. I think it is important for the public to know how to do it. If CPR is started on a patient, they have a better chance of making it until I can get on scene with the medication and equipment needed to keep them alive. If CPR is not started, than we usually can not bring them back. By the time we arrive, too much time has passed.
Many people do not know that the way of doing CPR has changed in the last couple of years. Many people are still taught the old way. This is a better way. It is easy to do, doesn't need special training, and is easy to remember if you find yourself in the situation with someone having a Cardiac Arrest. This is one of the better videos out there. It is a public service video put on by the Sarver Heart Center in Tucson Arizona. It might not be as interesting as some of the things that are usually written here, but it is still important. I hope you view it and remember that one person can, and often does, make a difference.
Patty Ann is the mother of Eleven wonderful children (most of whom decided to grow up and move out!) She is also the wife an amazing man who loves and cherishes her and spoils her rotten. After everyone else is in bed, she can often be found riding in the back of the local Ambulance as an EMT. You can find her blogging most days at Pitterle Postings
