This month's Visiting Teaching Message is titled: Activation
President Thomas S. Monson, has encouraged us to “reach out to rescue those who need our help and lift them to the higher road and the better way. … It is the Lord’s work, and when we are on the Lord’s errand, … we are entitled to the Lord’s help.”
Helping those who have gone astray come back to the gospel of Jesus Christ has always been part of being a Latter-day Saint and a member of Relief Society. President Brigham Young (1801–77) said, “Let us have compassion upon each other, … and let those who can see guide the blind until they can see the way for themselves."
I have a lot to say on the subject of activation, and I'm not sure that it's all completely relevant, but I'm going to say it nonetheless.
It is WONDERFUL to reach out to less active sisters in your ward and branch. It is NOT WONDERFUL to make them feel like a project or another item on your check list. Make sure that you are kind to those you visit teach. Don't let your only communication be within the halls of church on Sunday. Send them an email, drop off a note, be a true friend. Love your sisters, and when they're ready, they will come back, and they will feel welcomed.
Also: do not forget to reach out to the sisters that DO come to church each week. Sit by someone different, say hello and smile... this simple service can make all the difference in someone's week.
