Tasty Tuesday - Dressing Up Citrus Season

Too many oranges, not enough ideas? No problemo...you've got Jell-O! Ha!

My daughter is a regular American Girl Magazine groupie, complete with piles of weathered magazine clips. This idea was one we did together and was simple and quick enough that I didn't want to cause harm to her or mutilate my eyeballs halfway through the project really enjoyed! In looking back, I have a few follow-up thoughts to share as well.

Jell-O Oranges
3 oranges
1 pkg (6 oz) Jell-O, flavor of your choice - go bonkers!
Water

  • Prepare oranges by washing and slicing each in half. Remove orange flesh from peel*.
  • Set peel "shells" aside. Prepare Jell-O according to package directions for 'Jigglers'. Pour Jell-O into shells**. Set in the fridge for 30-60 minutes.
  • Once they are set, cut each half once more. Yields: 12 Slices

*I used my fingers, but a juicer would work awesome. Then you have fresh OJ. Double bonus! If you choose not to juice, the removed flesh can be diced up & mixed with yogurt for a creamy fruit salad.

**You could use 2 different flavors of Jell-O (use 1 small pkg. of each). Pour the 1st flavor in the shell. Refrigerate 1 hour. Prepare and pour the 2nd flavor on top. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Rainbow slices!

Have fun with this simple idea. I would love to see your creative spin!

Kristen is always looking for thingstolearnathome. She's a home-body and lives for her 3 kidlets, 1 hubby and the St.Bernard 'Humphry'. Oh, and cream cheese frosting on carrot cake. And laughing.
